S13 200SX CA18DET — Euro-Spec Stateside
Josh’s S13 200SX CA18DET — Euro-Spec Build Coming Stateside
When Josh was stationed in the U.K. with the U.S. Air Force, he didn’t just pick up a few souvenirs. He brought back a genuine right-hand-drive Nissan 200SX, a rare Euro-spec version that American enthusiasts almost never get to see up close.
Now back home in the States, this S13 stands apart from the U.S.-market 240SX not just for its CA18DET turbo engine, but for its unique factory options we didn't get to see stateside..
It’s a clean, authentic example of what Nissan enthusiasts overseas got to enjoy in the early ’90's, and it’s now getting a full mechanical refresh to bring it back to its prime.
Rebuild & Upgrades at Matt’s Power House
The car is currently at Matt’s Power House, where it’s receiving a full engine rebuild and supporting upgrades focused on reliability and long-term performance.
The refreshed setup includes:
New bottom end with upgraded pistons
New turbo manifold, replacing the old one that repeatedly cracked under spirited driving
Retained GT28 turbocharger for proven response and midrange power
New radiator for improved cooling
New clutch setup
Complete new wiring harness
Upgraded Tomei cams
Custom water and oil routing modifications by Matt at MPH for better performance and easier serviceability
Every upgrade was chosen with the goal of keeping the character of the CA18DET while addressing its known weak points. Durability, wiring age, and heat management.
Dyno & Tuning Plans
Once the fresh motor is broken in, the car will head to the dyno this winter for final tuning. The focus isn’t chasing peak numbers, it’s about a strong, reliable setup that can handle spirited street driving without compromising the OEM character that makes this Euro-spec 200SX so special.
Preserving the Euro 200SX Identity
While most U.S. enthusiasts are familiar with the KA24-powered 240SX, Josh’s imported CA18DET 200SX represents the true driving experience as it's lightweight, responsive, and uniquely equipped from the factory.
By restoring and updating the car the right way, Josh and the team at Matt’s Power House are keeping an often-overlooked part of Nissan history alive and soon, this RHD 200SX will be back on the road where it belongs.
We will keep you posted with the dyno number and compile a list of the parts this build consumed once it is finished, stay tuned.
